- Friendship Brigade
Friendship Brigade offers volunteer opportunities at Center 50+, which is a senior center operated by the City of Salem. Rooted in the belief that no one should feel forgotten or alone, the Friendship Brigade is an innovative, new community care and nursing home visitation program. Volunteers focus on spending time with seniors to make connections and offer projects that help to mitigate isolation. Our volunteers develop relationships with seniors to foster connections and social engagement that is sometimes difficult for those who reside in senior care facilities.
- Language in Motion
Language in Motion (LiM) is an innovative, cooperative, community-engaged-learning program through which study-abroad returnees, international students, heritage speakers, and upper-level language students aid local K-12 teachers by creating and presenting language and cultural activities in the classroom. Our volunteers are able to develop their public speaking and teaching skills while sharing what they love about different cultures and language learning.
The Willamette LiM program facilitates a weekly Japanese language and culture club for middle school students. We also provide one-time (or ongoing) multicultural presentations to classrooms and groups in the Salem-Keizer area.
- Tiger Club
Tiger Club is an ongoing program that partners Willamette students with 4th and 5th graders at nearby Bush Elementary School. During weekly after-school activities and lessons, Willamette volunteers engage with Bush students providing academic and social enrichment through games, tutoring, presentations, and reading. Tiger Club curriculum is based on the student's interests, classroom needs, and the mission of Bush Elementary.
