New Willamette scholarship honors family tradition

Waller Hall

Willamette University is offering a new scholarship to prospective students who are related to university alumni.

Children, grandchildren and the nieces and nephews of alumni from any of Willamette’s four schools — the College of Arts and ¿ì»îÊÓƵs, , College of Law and the Atkinson Graduate School of Management — are eligible for a $2,000 scholarship if they enroll in the fall of 2022.

The scholarship, which can be used at both CAS and PNCA, will be added on top of any other financial aid a student will receive.

No action is necessary — simply . Students who apply by Nov. 15 can also qualify for a $1,000 early application incentive.

The new legacy scholarship honors "the meaningful connection of students who carry on a family tradition at Willamette because we are a place that values genuine connection and tradition,” said Dean of Admission Sue Corner

“We care deeply about the lives of our alumni and the impact they have in the world,” she said. “Our care for alumni includes acknowledging when one of them steers a loved one to share in the transformational college experience they themselves have benefitted from.”

Legacy scholars are expected to meet the same criteria as all other applicants and will not receive preference during the admission decision.

Willamette is an access-oriented institution that offers a broad range of scholarships to honor various interests, talents and qualities, said Corner, and the legacy award doesn’t diminish the many ways the university can financially support non-legacy students.

“Our generous alumni are committed to providing a robust scholarship program that benefits all students,” she said.
