Women鈥檚 basketball is in fifth place nationally for cancer fundraiser

The only Division III school in the top 10, Willamette can win a huge cash bonus by getting the most new pledges the week of Feb. 18.

The team is currently in . The only Division III school in the top 10, Willamette is competing with large universities, such as Florida, North Carolina, Villanova and Illinois.

The Bearcats have raised more than $2,800. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

“Thank you to all who have already pledged,” says Assistant Coach Katelyn Gruys. “We are proving that we can compete with anyone.”

This week (through 3 p.m. Feb. 25) teams are competing in the Rally Week competition to get the most new pledges of $20 or more. If the Bearcats take first or second in this competition, they will receive a cash prize that goes to their overall fundraising total. First place receives $15,000. Second place will receive $5,000.

Fans can make a one-time donation or pledge a certain amount for each 3-pointer that the Bearcats make during the campaign, which ends March 5.
